Final session at DFI

  • What did I learn that increased my understanding of Manaiakalani kaupapa and pedagogy?
I have learnt a lot about the Manaiakalani kaupapa and pedagogy. Breaking it down each week about Learn, Create & Share was an eye-opener. The different lense you can see the kaupapa of Manaiakalani was just refreshing to see because Gerhard and Dorothy were able to share their knowledge and perspective.

  • What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow as a professional?
It is too much to name everything I have learnt from this Digital Fluency Intensive Course because each day I was able to take more than 1 thing away. Due to the learning being rewindable that made things easier knowing if I have missed out something or there was something I didn’t quite understand I was always able to go back to my notes (blog post) and go through the slides provided by Dorothy & Gerhard and go through it at my own time but especially in my pace. I found that part very useful!

  • What did I learn that could be used with my learners?
Firstly the skills and tools I have learnt from this course I know for a fact that I can be more efficient in my planning so therefore it should be evident through the participation and contribution of my learners. If our class site is easy to navigate and my students can go to where they are supposed to be within 3 clicks, I know that they know what they are doing. However, if a student is unable to follow through the different elements in a class site, then maybe then is its reflection on me as an educator of the pace of my instructions or how clear they are.
I am also able to show my students the cool new tricks and tips using google platforms so that they can execute into their own way of using any google app.

  • What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow in my personal life?
I personally use Google sheets almost every day. I know you can use it for almost anything but the way I have found it best for is budgeting. The functions are so useful, but I  manually type them in because it gives me thrills just knowing that I am able to remember and use the skills I had then and it still works.
Confidence wise I am just amazed at how intense this course yet everything was useful in our personal and work life. Some Google apps I never knew existed we were fortunate enough to have exposure and learn how to navigate them was just rewarding.

A BONUS FROM ALL THE INTENSE INFORMATION OVERLOAD I AM SO HAPPY I HAVE PASSED THE EXAM!

Thanks Dorothy &  Gerhard!

Session 8 of DFI

Due to the fact that I was unable to make it to the DFI last week, What I am sharing are two slide decks that helped me prepare for the exam which we are sitting next week Friday. It was a challenge on speed! This really tested that fact whether I was confident and competent with the skills we learnt from the DFI sessions with Gerhard and Dorothy. It was a lot of pleasure but it was a good challenge. I did okay in all honesty but I know I can do better. Need to remember that it will be marked by a machine and the decorating and designing part is right up my alley but that's my weakness.

This is something that I found very useful and I will definitely use next week as a cyber smart session to see what my students can and cannot do. I will even do this myself to compare and contrast with the students and with my judgement of how I thought I would do!

Session 7 DFI #EMPOWERMENT

#EMPOWERMENT!

This week I have decided to take notes on Google Slide

Hour of Code ===========>                  Minecraft

Writing code

60 mins
Blogging -Challenge
Time to reflect and share with colleagues
  • How am I using this hour to share my learning from the day?
I am using different ways to post onto my blog. I have decided to do something different with my blog post where I have embedded a google slide (of my notes which I always do) and uploading images that if you like on them they should take you to a site. This is something I came across when I had to teach a student how to post their google site onto their blog, but we couldn't. We came to the conclusion that you needed to screenshot a bit of your site and then hyperlink (command + k) it to the published site. We figured that you needed to press the shortcut twice then it will give you the option to hyperlink/link.

  • How am I planning my posts?
I enjoyed using Google slides because to me I feel that it is a nice way to be organised with my note-taking. I have also uploaded some images which takes you to the site we visited today.

  • How would I assess my last post if it were written by one of my learners?
I would look for the
    • purpose of the blog post
    • The title of the blog is filled in 'Creative' and short and about the blog post)
    • Labels of the blog post are filled in (short words which are short words which summarise the blog post)
    • Check if they have embedded something onto the blog
      • google slide
      • google doc
      • images
      • Drive slides
      • Image -> linked to a google app (or to their learning)

  • How readable, accessible and informative is this post for my colleagues back at school?
This is very informative to my colleagues because it is something we haven't started at School. There is talk about the Digital Technology Curriculum yet the activities that can be implemented right now are already available so it can be used immediately. Even take a short staff or syndicate meeting where we share some of the things we have learnt on the DFI course
  • Algorithm game
One thing I have done was I linked my Professional blog to my image on my class site. That way I am being open for the wider community to view my blog and post some comments onto my blog.

Session 6 of DFI

This google slide above has my notes from today's session at DFI

Today we learnt more about sites and importantly the purpose of class sites. We went around in the group having a brief show and tell of each others class site. It was great to see the different layout of sites which can be helpful in reconstructing my own. We also took on board feedback and made changes to my site today. It was good to hear how other educators view your class site and offered their feedback. I felt safe to share and it was their way of connecting to my class.

We learnt about the beauty of sharing and staying connected.

I also evaluated my own site and thought a good idea for my learner's WHANAU is to create a page where the whanau can access their child's learning site (the student's created themselves) and their blogs. Making it accessible for the WHANAU which reinforces the concept of being connected to their child's learning.

I have also been working on reconstructing my class site, and to be very honest, I am content with the layout of my class blog.  Click on the image to take you to my class site.
Feel free to view my class site and drop a comment below with any feedback.
All is welcome.

Thank you

STATE OF MATTER GOOGLE SITE

ONE OF OUR TASKS FOR DFI, WAS TO CREATE A MULTIMODAL PLAN THAT WE CAN POSSIBLY USE WHEN TEACHING.

A COLLEAGUE AND I CREATED A SCIENCE-BASED MULTI-MODAL WHERE THE OTHER TEACHERS CAN USE IN THEIR TEACHING.

Session 5 in DFI

In this session of DFI (Digital Fluency Intensive) we learnt about the importance of making learning visible to our students and our whanau.

It was very engaging and it made me realise that it is important for us Teachers to be up tp date and have nothing to hide when we are making learning & teaching visible:

DFI session 4

This week's session was based on the SHARE of the Learn Create Share pedagogy.

We learnt a lot of useful things in today's sessions from Google forms, sheets, my maps and even blogging.

I have used a google slide as my notes for this week and I know I will definitely use some of the skills that I learnt and utilise them when analyzing data or even as a daily tool.
